Fado music reflects the heart and soul of Portugal
Fado is a musical style that originated in Portugal in 1800. Influences come from the farm more, Arabia and Africa, all of which the Portuguese had contact. Moors were Muslims North Afrikaans occupied Portugal and Spain of the 700 to 1500. Were then expelled by the Crusaders, but has great influence in the food, cuisine, architecture and music.
Many Americans have neverheard of Fado, not surprising since it is played on local radio commercial. Those I met and got to hear it often in love. Musically it is very pleasant to the ears, and follow a predictable music. I think it has signed agreements with the Blues in America. Not so much in just a harmonic chords 1, 1V, V, which is blues based, But the way that music is the same as on and what it means and forms ofpeople and the country today. The Fado lyrical content is usually about desire, lost love, suffering, the same thing a blues song is usually over. It seems very much Sonicaly.
I hate this music when I was a kid! Seats in the back seat of my parents car, forced to listen, not understand the lyrics, and it sounded so strange close to pop radio stations I listened on my time. I avoid it as I could and basically forgotten as I grewhigh.
On a day in my 20s and down and down the saxophone, I heard a recording by jazz saxophonist playing Portuguese music Fado Kyao Rao on his saxophone, not singing, beautiful melodies played on a tenor. It 'was a whole new light for me. I think I started, but I heard that speech was a saxophone for me instead of an old Portuguese singer sings about things that I could not understand, I understand … Listen Rao Kyao
The typical equipment2 guitars are called in Portuguese Portuguese guitariste regular nylon and 2 acoustic guitars, as the Portuguese called a viola.
The biggest star of fado was Amalia Rodrigues, who died some years ago but has been active in most of the second half of the 20th century. She was known and appreciated internationally and has fado from Portugal to the world. There are games and movies written about her ….
Has one of the great American tenor saxophonistsin the studio with his band, a sax and on some songs. Don Byas was a contemporary of Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young, the great saxophonists of the early period of swing jazz in America around 1940. But Byas moved to Europe, living in France, Holland and Denmark, in the middle of the 40s and stayed there for the rest of his life. Fortunately, while in Portugal for a short time was called for a study session with the great Amalia that history was made with one of the largestAmerican jazz tenor saxophonist, with the greatest singer of Portuguese fado.
