With this stainless steel speaker mount, you can now easily suspend your speakers from the ceiling--ideal for creating an all-encompassing 5.1 surround system or adding audio to another room in the house. Designed to hold speakers up to 20 pounds in weight, this speaker mount has a ball mount which rotates and holds in any direction, allowing you to easily adjust the speaker angle to best suit your listening environment. All you need is a speaker with either pre-existing threaded inserts for the mounting plate, or a sturdy wood frame that can be safely drilled into. Stainless steel construction means this mount is built to last and can be used for both outdoor and indoor applications. The mount is also designed with polymer reinforcements at critical areas to help minimize resonance, resulting in a clearer, more accurate sound. | I received the speaker mount and was very impressed with how extensive the kit was. It had everything I needed to mount my speakers to the ceiling. Let me tell you, these mounts are very sturdy and have shown no indication of slipping at all. I am very happy with these mounts and actually purchased a second set for my rear surround speakers. One personal note about the amount of weight they hold: I would reduce by 50% the actual amount of weight the speaker mount will hold in place without any slippage or extra wear, when compared to the manufactures maximum weight (i.e. published max. holding weight of 20 lbs, I would suggest that a speaker no more than 10 lbs). This has been my personal experience. |
20lbs mounts are 3/8 - 16 mounting thread (10 lbs mounts are 1/4 - 20)

The product is very good, however be sure to check the thread size on the back of your speakers. Many speakers that you will find for your home will have a 1/4" - 20 mounting thread in the back of the speaker. The Omni-mount 20 lbs mounts (both wall and ceiling type) will have 3/8" - 16 threads. Personally, I used the 20 lbs mounts and added a 3/8" - 16 female to 1/4" - 20 male thread adapter (also called a standoff sometimes) in order to mount my speakers. If you are mounting wood speakers with no pre-installed threaded insert for mounting, than the thread size doesn't matter since it comes with the required parts for screwing into the back of the wood frame speaker.
I agree with the other reviewer(s) that you should mount it to studs to get it properly secured. |
Wall Mounts work for Ceiling

I needed to mount two eight pound surround speakers to a center cedar beam on our ceiling. They were Definitive Technologies bipole speakers and each fired in two angled directions so the L-Bar configuration of the regualar ceiling mounts would not work. The wall mounts were the solution since the straight bar allows the speakers to hang down on the plate you attach to the back. This allowed the speaker to fire in both directions down the angled ceiling. The Omnimounts worked fine. They were easy to install. I had no problem tightning the mount to get the speaker set perpendicualar with the cross beam. And I was able to position the speakers like this without mounting the support bar plate directly in the center of the speaker backs. in other words, when tightend, the mounts hold the speaker perpendicular even when the weight is not centered. I would recommend using the 20 pound mounts for a speaker weighing 8 pounds or more. This was the configuration and product recommended to me by Definitive Technologies. The omnimounts were far superior in coustruction to any others I considered.

Good mounts, but the ball-joint slips a bit

Having purchased a set of Energy C-50 speakers, I had only a couple choices in speaker mounts. The Omnimount has a 3/8 16 male thread which is not indicated in the description.
Installation no more difficult than any other mount. The mounting hardware is fairly sturdy and well built with the exception of the ball-joint. The ball joint is plenty strong, but the plastic is a little soft. You have to tighten it really, really tight to get it to hold its position if you are significantly off from the natural hanging position.
Using the standard anchors into 1/2" drywall, the mounts seem suitable for 7 lbs speakers. For wall-mounting speakers, you will definately need to mount them to studs.
A couple of minor finish issues.
1. It did not include the black sleeve to cover the steel rod; a little shrink tubing from the home improvement store fixes that.
2. The bolt head on some units were painted black, others were left as stainless steel. |
